Warner
Bros. Home Video | Review by Dan Taylor
Directed
with typical lets-blow-some-shit-up panache
by Sam Firstenberg (AVENGING FORCE, AMERICAN
NINJA 1 & 2), the third outing in the
self-proclaimed "greatest action series
of all time" easily tops the lame DELTA
FORCE 2 starring a pre hair-extension Chuck
Norris and the leering Billy Drago. Unable
to afford such mega-talent for this go-round,
this installment instead settles for the
offspring (Nick Cassavetes, Mike Norris,
and a Douglas) and siblings (a Penn) of
more bankable stars.
Melding timely political events
into an action-adventure script, a joint
US/USSR commando team must kidnap a sweaty
Middle Eastern zealot before one of his
disciples can detonate a nuclear bomb in
an American city.
Violent and briskly paced
(4 locales in the first 10 minutes), DF3:TKG
features one of the most ludicrous denouements
in film history since SUDDENLY!
The saddest part of the flick
is that the young Cassavetes -- such a promising
villain in the underrated QUIET COOL and
the outlandish THE WRAITH -- here gets first-billed
as the lanky jar-head in charge. Too bad
Nick comes off as coordinated and athletic
as Herman Munster. Ah Nick, we had much
lower hopes for you!
Then again, I guess Nick's
doing okay after co-starring in FACE/OFF
and directing last year's SHE'S SO LOVELY.
