A-Pix
(producers of MALICIOUS) has become a recent
favorite around the ER Bunkhouse, largely
due to their use of "not-ready-for-theatrical-release-players"
like Corey Feldman (see VOODOO)
and the malicious, nutritious Molly Ringwald.
By the way, Molly had her own show on ABC
a few seasons back. Amazingly, it lasted
longer than Corey's CBS series from the
previous season. (Most folks are now
scratching their heads...yes, Feldman co-starred
in a CBS series in the fall of 1995. It
had something to do with a computer company,
starred the big-boobed redhead that was
on 'Wings,' and it was called 'Nerds,' or
something like that. Wonder why it didn't
last...?)
To summarize, MALICIOUS is
as cookie-cutter a FATAL ATTRACTION rip-off
as you're gonna find (weren't they the rage
six years ago?). Nameless Male Star
is a college baseball player and pre-med
student -- just so we know he's NOT
a dumb jock -- whose galpal won't put out
for the BMOC. Too bad, 'cause slutty, kooky,
badly-couiffed Molly R is more than willing.
See,
MR is a med student at the same school,
and she's got a thing for baseball players
because of her father. (Sorry, that's all
the explanation I could deduce.) So, she
seduces Baseball Boy and starts injecting
herself into his dull little life. We even
get the tired old "throw yourself down
the steps and blame the horny but innocent
guy" routine. Oh, and this all takes
place while he's being scouted by the San
Francisco Giants.
If the "twists"
weren't insulting enough (Hey, think the
cat'll wind up dead? Might Mom's prescription
be spiked by our escapee from the Brat Pack?),
the flick's "Six Months Later"
denouement has all the earmarks of something
written on bad weed.
But enough about the ripped-off
plot, hackneyed acting and tv-movie directing.
The big news is that Molly exposes her rack
-- too bad it's 1996, not '86. I don't get
a special feeling from seeing the aging
BREAKFAST CLUB princess in all her topless
glory.
