Steele Justice (1987)
Paramount Home Video | Review by Dan Taylor

Martin Kove in Steele JusticeThere are times when you need a film like this. A film so macho, so ludicrous, and so explosively violent that I couldn't help but have an immensely fun time. STEELE JUSTICE is just such a film, and while it quickly disappeared disappeared from theatres upon release I'm here to tell you it's definetely worth a rental.

Martin Kove (of TVs feminist fest 'Cagney & Lacey') stars as John Steele, another in a long line of divorced, unemployable, alcoholic Vietnam vets. Back in 'Nam (courtesy of a pre-credit flashback), Steele and his best friend are shot by the VC as the war ends. Left to die, Steele struggles back, saves his friend's life and leaves a VC general to die. This may not be a good career move.

Flash forward to the present, where the best friend (now a highly-decorated police officer) and most of his family are offed by the Vietnamese Mafia. If you think it's time for Steele to find those responsible and separate them from their internal organs, then you've also seen too many of these revenge flicks.

The remainder of SJ is comprised of Kove and friends (including ultimate co-star Bernie Casey) offing every generic Oriental bad guy in the book.

STEELE JUSTICE ain't long on plot, but it is mighty big fun for the action/adventure fan. Don't spend your $ on big-budget crap like RAMBO III, grab entertaining low-budget crap like STEELE JUSTICE instead.
