Transformations (1988)
Starmaker Home Video | Review by Dan Taylor

I feel certain that this is the only "there's a slimy alien monster among us" sci-fi-flick/AIDS-parable I've ever seen where the creature is killed by purifying fire -- and pure love -- dished out by a chick in lingerie toting an industrial strength flamethrower. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Rex Smith (MIA since his turn as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the much-maligned TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK) plays Wolf Shadduck, a space smuggler whose ship crashes on a barren prison planet. While waiting for repairs and an opportunity to go through the space shield, Wolfie decides to sample some of the planet's nightlife. Much to his chagrin, he starts oozing pus and has an uncontrollable desire to murder his sexual partners.

The only one who can figure out what is going on is a priest played by Patrick MacNee, the lone survivor of a similar epidemic 26 years ago on another planet! Let's see...the man-ster murders his sexual partners after cheap, one-night stands; oozing lesions/boils start showing up on his body; the only survivor of a similar plague is a (we assume) celibate priest; and the one whose love he really needs is a virginal medic who always wears white! Talk about sledgehammer subtlety.

Did I forget to mention the prison break? How about the fact that sexy Rexy needs to hit the Soloflex before taking off his shirt again? Or that McNee gets the line of the movie: "From these nightmares comes a demon -- AN INCUBUS!"

Hell, I'm making this sound far more interesting than it really is.

[Editor's Note: This flick was originally made by Charles Band's Empire company in the late 80s and wasn't released until 1991. In other words, the company that released TROLL and TERROR VISION sat on this!]
